Pupil Council

At Red House, pupils have an important part to play in making decisions about the life and work of the school.

One of the ways in which our pupils can have their say and make sure that their views and ideas are listened to is through the Red House Pupil Council.

The Red House Pupil Council gives our pupils the chance to tell teachers and staff their ideas. They meet regularly to talk about important school issues and projects and to put forward their class views at council meetings. In addition, we also have a Charity Committee  that organises fundraising activities to support a number of organisations, including Children in Need, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Fairtrade and Sport Relief. These events allow the children to learn about different charities, both locally and nationally.

The Pupil Council has a list of rules, which clearly sets out roles and responsibilities. It includes a chairperson, who leads the meetings by following an agenda, and a secretary, who takes the minutes.

During a typical Pupil Council meeting, children discuss important issues, share ideas and decide on action points. After the meeting, representatives report back to their class, which helps every pupil feel involved.

The Pupil Council keeps pupils informed about the life of the school, helps pupils gain the confidence to have their say, and encourages pupils to be active citizens in the school community.
